I’m one of nine adopted children in a family of fifteen. Despite our loving family, I saw and felt the harm caused by broken child welfare policy, underinvested schools, environmental hazards, and economic inequity from an early age. My siblings and I faced barrier upon barrier to success and opportunity.

From a young age, my teachers identified me as gifted and talented, but I failed out of middle school, attended three separate high schools, two community colleges, and one University, before finishing my education with a Masters in Public Policy from UCLA where I graduated top of my class.

For my entire adult life, I have organized in our community fighting for economic, environmental, housing, and social justice. Through the years we have proven time and again that real change is still possible when it is rooted in the needs of the people.

In 2020, I co-chaired the historic Measure J campaign, which fought to allocate nearly a billion dollars of the LA County annual budget to address racial injustice through investments in youth development, job training, small business development, supportive housing, and alternatives to incarceration.

In 2021, I was elected for the first time with over 50% of the vote in a primary against five other candidates.

In office we have successfully passed legislation to end neighborhood oil drilling, build affordable housing, expand economic opportunity for small businesses, make lasting investments in our youth, and give voice to those who have historically been unheard.

This district has given everything to me, and I fight everyday to make sure we have all of the things we need to thrive and grow. This election my name might be the one on the ballot, but it’s our shared future that we are voting on and that is worth fighting for.

Fight for a state that works for all Californians.

  1. Where people can live and work and kids can learn and play and grow and families thrive

  2. Where opportunity grows and is in reach

  3. Where we treat each other with dignity and respect

  4. Where we defend our neighbors and friends, not demonize them

The Choice is Clear

The choice is clear: do we move forward or backwards? Do we allow our state to bend under the cruelty and violence and terror imposed from Washington? Or do we stand strong and step up — and show that our communities can lead the nation in innovation, in care, in justice, in building a sustainable future for our kids. We can’t afford not to lead.
